“Thank you for coming to the March of Dimes! We’re happy that you made it to the finish line!”

The cheerleading team chanted these lines and many more at the March of Dimes’ “March for Babies” on April 30.

The March of Dimes is an organization dedicated to improving the lives of babies and trying to put an end to premature birth, one of the leading causes of infant mortality.

The organization holds the annual walk to help raise money for families with premature babies and to fund research to help the cause.

Every year, the cheerleading team is invited to come and cheer the marchers on, bringing happiness and fun to the march.

“A lot of the kids there were so excited when they saw us cheer,” said Ashley Woodson’19. Elsy Argueta’18 said, “I felt like whenever we cheered or danced with participants, it was a feeling of pure bliss, especially when it came to interacting with the kids.”

The kids at the march loved to see the cheerleaders with their sparkly pom poms, and often asked for pictures. Jadeion Saunders’18 said, “Just knowing that you were able to put smiles their faces, creates a sense of pride and happiness. I hope I can do it again next year.”

Thousands of people attend the walk every year. Families come from near and far to honor babies that they have lost to premature birth or to celebrate the lives of babies who have survived.

“This was my first time attending and I would love to come back next year and show support for the babies in need and their families,”said Ashley Woodson’19.

The team is looking forward to going to the March for Babies next year to spread cheer to the walkers and support the March of Dimes organization.
