Girls Tennis Serve Up Winning Season

The Girls Tennis Team volleyed their way to success.

The Girls Tennis team played New Utrecht on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Midwood field, the Lady Hornets successfully finished with 4-1 defeating New Utrecht.

Midwood Lady Hornets lost their first singles game, but the team came together to play their best.

The second singles match lasted about an hour as both players volleyed and competed over their win. Nicole Kovmir ’16 won the second singles game ten-seven.

“It was a close game, and I still managed to win, so I was relieved and happy,” said Nicole Kovmir ’16.

“The most memorable part of my match was when I managed to win my game 7-7 40-40, and the game was resumed because there was a change for the game to be out of ten. I was super ecstatic when I won my game because it was such a close match,” stated Kovmir ’16.

The third singles, first doubles, and second doubles matches were smashing as the Lady Hornets defeated New Utrecht with the score ten-zero.

First doubles player, Alina Merkhassina stated, “My teammate and I were very happy because we got along very well during our game and were able to communicate with each other, which was the main cause for our win.”

The Girls tennis team has been doing well as they have won more than half of their games. The Hornets defeated Telecommunication Arts and Technology High School, Fort Hamilton, and New Utrecht.

The Girls Midwood Tennis team ranks fourth place in League A2. With the determination and hope that the Lady Hornets have, they believe they can increase their ranking this season.
